A compact floating retreat moored on the edge of a tiny spring-fed pond in a former gravel pit. The site is left virtually untouched, other than a garden for produce, with the buoyant vessel hovering above the pond’s surface. Constructed as an assemblage of savaged and new materials, including old aluminum framed windows, plastic rain barrels, corrugated tin roofing, etc. There are no services to the private site. Candles and kerosene provide light, with a wood stove and gas BBQ for cooking and heat. The enclosed double-height space, including a tiny loft, provides protected shelter in inclement weather, with an airy screen room to keep bugs at bay, and an open deck for sunbathing, angling and plunging.
