Fire & Ice
When freezing temperatures come to Winnipeg each winter, folks gather on skating trails along the frozen rivers and so called “warming" huts get constructed to amuse, if not warm them. This hot proposition is intended to provide a small enclosure centred around a firepit to provide respite from the wind and cold. The translucent red skin of the hut accentuates the warm glow cast by the fire, making it a beacon of warmth on cold arctic nights. There exist around the world long-running fire festivals, notably a very large pagan gathering in Scotland - the Beltane Fire Festival. Mid-winter in Winnipeg, on water far too cold to flow, is the perfect setting for a northern Fire On Ice Festival. with Patrick ad hoc artist collective
