An iconic, 75-year-old neighbourhood bowling alley reimagined for today, with two of the original eight bowling lanes decommissioned to make way for a small performance stage. Lots of cleaning up was required in the tired old space, with many interesting finds hidden by the numerous uninspired improvements implemented over the years. An original Art Deco ceiling, which had been accentuated with neon detailing, was uncovered under a bland suspended T-bar. A local neon expert was found to repair and revive these, and new neon was also added to the original exterior block-letter signage that is suspended from the projecting roof canopy. A stash of vintage bowling trophies were found in the tiny crawlspace and are now given prominence above the bar, which has been assembled from salvaged curved glulam beams and plaster medallions. A cache of antiquated translucent bowling pins have been repurposed as light fixtures, dancing around a disco ball. A local artist added a punch of colour with a full wall of graffiti.
