Rip

A new off-grid cottage on a private island for the Rip family, on the enchanting, ever alluring Lake of the Woods.  Positioned on a peninsula high above the water’s edge, affording spectacular panoramic  lake views to the north, south and east.  The cottage follows the terrain, with the floor plate gently stepping down, as the broad slopping roof rises up, creating voluminous living areas and more intimate sleeping spaces.  A screened porch and open decks wrap three sides, promoting the occupants to flow outdoors, both physically and visually.  Timber posts salvaged from the island’s dense forest become part of the structure, blurring the line between the built and natural environments.  A winter ice road makes the cottage accessible year round.
